Tinkering pays off for Latitude 41’s happy hour
Good restaurants stay good by consistently delivering the goods that regulars have come to crave.

Better restaurants are restless and will address shortcomings as well as tinker with success. Latitude 41 exists in that latter category.

Leading Latitude’s current (gradually progressing) tinkering team are sous chef Andrew Bell and new mixologist Nicolene Schwartz. I like their enthusiasm, style and new-fashioned offerings.

And I like attending an improvised Latitude food party created by rounding up eager tablemates along with a smorgasbord of nicely priced small plates ($3 to $10). This feasting fiesta is thoughtfully enabled — and delightfully discounted — during Latitude’s two-for-one happy hour (Monday through Friday, 5 to 6:30 p.m.).

LATITUDE 41 IS OFFICAILLY THE GRILLED CHEESE CHAMPION IN COLUMBUS!

The results are in! Our esteemed judges (Monica Day of NBC 4, Chef Eric Till of Commonwealth Sandwich Bar, and Rick Wolfe of The Cheesy Truck) have declared Chef Dave MacLennan of Latitude 41 Restaurant the overall winner of the Grilled Cheese Throwdown and the newly crowned Grilled Cheese Master! A close second goes to Chef Jeff Lindemeyer of Cameron's American Bistro.

Our featured "grilled cheese" was somewhat a twist on a BLT as well. We used Brioche bread, a luxurious tomato jam, pork belly, and of course CHEESE! Stay tuned for the recipe so you can make Chef Dave's winning creation on your own!

Our waitress was fantastic. She asked if we were going to the show afterward and when we said yes, she said I'll make sure I get you out of here in plenty of time and she did.

"My family celebrated my husband's birthday at Latitude 41. The goat cheese rasoto was amazing. I had the h Hangar steak with sweet potato gnocchi and it was divine. We also enjoyed a bottle of Klinker Brick old vine Syrah that was lovely."

"We recently visited Latitude 41. Have heard many great reviews so for our anniversary we tried it out. We had believed that the menu would be much more pricy and was pleasantly surprised by the selections choices priced in the mid-teens to low $20's. We opted for a tasting menu of 4 courses with a wine pairing. Total was $50pp. We were amazed my the presentations and flavors. They all were spot on!! Wines while not top end were wonderfully matched with the selctions presented by the Chef."

"We have gone to Latitude several times, most recently with a large group. Although in a hotel, it doesn't feel like a hotel restaurant. The chef tries to source locally (mostly cheese and meat in the winter) and to purchase sustainable seafood. The food is consistently very good to excellent from start through main to finish (excellent desserts). The staff is always knowledgeable about the menu and service is highly attentive. "

"My wife and I spent our first anniversary at Latitude 41 (we were married at The Renaissance a year ago). We asked for the 4-course sampler, which leaves the dinner selection up to the chef. We were served an excellent salad, delicious wild rabbit soup, incredible spare rib and scallop main course, and mind-blowing dessert sampler, the highlights of which were the pumpkin cheesecake puff pastry and homemade s'mores. Awesome. Portions seemed small, but we were plenty full at the end of dinner without feeling like we were pigs.
The wait staff was courteous and attentive. "

"Interesting combinations make this a fun menu, and the combinations work! Reasonable prices add to the incentives here. Excellent appetizers and a fascinating menu."

“We went for a dinner before a concert at the Palace Theater...great dinner reasonably priced and great atmosphere. Walking to the show made it feel a very little bit like NYC but without the cost or crowds. Very accommodating to me the vegetarian and our 13 year old. A great find in the city.”

“Excellent very creative food and outstanding service. Best service and most inventive food I have had in Columbus”

“Always one of our favorite Columbus restaurants. Squash soup was wonderful, as were the steak and lamb main dishes. Charles, our server, was top notch. We'll be back.”

“Latitude 41 is fantastic. We visited on New Years Eve and enjoyed the prix fix menu. I have eaten at several well established restaurants on New Years Eve and often the food is not as excellent as it is on other days. But Latitude 41 was not this way. Start to finish it was excellent.”

“The four course sampler was delicious, especially the rabbit agnolloti! The timing of the courses was perfect. I look forward to my next visit.”

“We were there for lunch and then went to the Palace Theater. Excellent location if you are going to either theater. We all had sandwiches(BLT's and a specialty Blue, Cheddar burger),and all were excellent. Service was outstanding. Very upbeat atmosphere and all persons affiliated with the restaurant were most hospitable. Looking forward to going back.”

“Great place to gather before the theatre. The 3 course special offers a wonderful selection of foods to satisfy any palate. The service was outstanding.”

“Excellent food! My husband and I came here to celebrate my birthday - we had a great time and had fun trying a lot of the small plates.”

“This was our second time there and we loved it both times. I can't think of anything that would have made it better. A perfect place to dine with friends or out on a date night. Love this place and will be back.”

The menu certainly isn't "mainstream", but EVERYTHING was excellent! We had the 4 course meal. Each course was delicious! The setting was comfortable. The table arrangements leave plenty of space to allow you to have a conversation uninterrupted by other patrons. The servers were able to speak to everything on the menu. The head chef stopped by our table to make sure everything was in order. He put a unique spin on flavors and combinations. All of it worked!! I will definitely return!

“This restaurant is in a hotel, but it is not the typical hotel restaurant. The food is amazing. I'd say it's Columbus's best kept secret.”

“This was our first visit to Latitude 41 and the only thing I can say is why I waited so long to dine there. The service was excellent and the Lobster Mac & Cheese was out of this world. The entire meal was excellent and the use of local fresh ingredients really came through in the food. The waitress told us that the menu is designed on what is fresh and in-season at the time which makes another visit open to an a new food experience. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a great meal in a casual but elegant surrounding.”

“Awesome dining experience! The 4 course tasting menu was a pleasant surprise and left us feeling full but not over-stuffed. It was a true bargain at $30/person. Service was personable, friendly, and helpful but not intrusive or over-bearing. Just as our last course was being served, the chef came out and greeted us and talked a little bit about the meal and the fresh, local, organic ingredients used in the meal; it was a true treat!”

Just wanted to send a quick note to thank you all for your hard work, generosity and flexibility for tonight's Yelp Masquerade Elite party. Although Mother Nature didn't look favorably upon us to allow for our rooftop soiree as planned, the Yelp community sure looked at all of you with excitement – and were so appreciative!

My wife surprised me with dinner here.  We don't live in Columbus, I'm not sure how she chose the restaurant, but it was an excellent choice.

We did the four-course tasting menu, and allowed them to pick wines for the courses.  I didn't see the check, so don't know what the wine cost, but $35/person for four courses is a pretty good price.

The wine list here is really well thought out, lots of interesting, smaller producers.

I thought it was really cool that they used items from local producers (a waffle from Taste of Belgium in the North Market, Jeni's sorbets & Ice Cream).  Often, an ambitious place is a little too proud to use things not made in-house.

I'll spare you a course-by-course rundown (I understand the menu changes all the time, so your 4-course would likely be different anyway), but EVERYTHING that hit our table was beautiful and delicious.  Very well-balanced flavors, well-executed, smart cooking.  I haven't eaten a meal like this one in some time.

I very much look forward to coming back.  Go.  Now.

I tried a variety of items here, gazpacho, wings confit, goat cheese polenta...YUM! I will come back to try desserts and the whole latte love coffee cocktail. I was pleasantly surprised and very pleased with the service.

Our social group 'Meet-2-Eat' (http://www.meetup.com) had a WONDERFUL time last Thursday night. We were pleasantly able to reserve  1/2 of the patio. Most places don't allow this. The Manager, Roger, made sure we had 2 servers; Michael & Tiffany. They took GREAT care of us. We loved the 'BOGO' appetizers. The food was delicious! Our valet parking tickets were validated so parking was only $3. This will be a repeat venue in the future! Thanks Latitude 41.

A delightful, delicious meal tonight at Latitude.  Our meal consisted of a shared wild mushroom flat bread pizza and wilted spinach salad; the smoked tuna salad pita; the Juicy Lucy; and a side of hand cut fries. All were perfectly delicious.  It was fun to see everyone around us enjoying their selections as much.   Seated outdoors, the evening could not have been more perfect.  The wait staff was lovely as was the chef who came to greet/meet us.  It's the kind of place you'd want to take guests..
